Parc Güell is a public park designed by Antoni Gaudí commissioned by the entrepreneur Eusebi Güell. Located on Carmel Hill, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of all of Barcelona and the Mediterranean.
A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1984, the park is world-famous for the undulating bench covered in colorful mosaics, the salamander (El Drac) at the entrance, the Hypostyle Room with its 86 Doric columns, and architecture that blends nature and geometry.
The original project (1900-1914) envisioned a luxury residential garden city with 60 plots. Only two houses were built — one of which became Gaudí's residence for 20 years, now a museum. The commercial failure of the project led to its transformation into a public park in 1926.
